:: It’s All About the LASHES! ::

So, just in case you’ve been living under a rock for the past year or so, I must inform you that there’s a new wave of fashion and it’s literally “sweeping” or should I say “peeping” the nation. Yes, it’s all about the lashes! Women all around are asking how to get there’s longer, thicker, darker, and heck…even curlier! Whether it’s celebrities like Katy Perry coming out with her own line of stylish strip lashes, or Kim Kardashian’s famous peepers always making red carpet news, we are absolutely smitten by the “windows of the soul”. We’re gonna talk about some of the classics and also the latest innovations in the world of lash extensions, so ladies get your pen & paper ready ’cause it’s Lashes 101.
:: The Strip :: Oh, the classic beauty. These are strip or band lash. They’ve been here since the invention of eyelash extensions in 1916! Now, I’m not going to go too deep into the history but basically the inventor wanted his actress to have these long, ballroom-style lashes that touched her cheeks. And just like that, eyelash extensions were born. Thank you D.W.Griffith from all us divas! Stay tuned because Ashley will be doing a possible EyeLash Application video on YouTube!

:: The Individual:: Individual lashes are awesome for your client that wants that little extra POP on her wedding day or night out, but without the showgirl appeal. Individuals are great because the look natural, you can’t really tell if they’re fake or not, and your client doesn’t feel them which is HUGE ! Sometimes the band lashes can be a tad heavy-feeling or even a bit uncomfortable if it’s your clients first time. However, with individuals they’re virtually weightless. Also, if it gets a little windy out while wearing a strip lash, one of your corners can lift. NOT CUTE! If you’re wearing the individuals and it’s windy, you may lose one, but no one will notice ;0) To remove these guys, you simply just wash your face and they go bye-bye down the drain.
:: Lash Extensions:: Now, it’s getting interesting, RIGHT?! Okay, so here’s the scoop on lash extensions. Unlike the strip and individual lashes, these guys are added one hair at a time ….LITERALLY! This process can take anywhere between 1 hour to 2 hours for a full set of gorgeous lashes. You definitely want to go to a professional for these, but when they’re done right, damn do they look stunning.
As you can see in the picture, the technician is using pointed tweezers to go in between the client’s lashes to add the falsies. These are great for someone traveling and doesn’t want to put on lashes everyday ( i.e. honeymoon, business trip, woman on the go).
They last anywhere between a few weeks to a month and the prices may vary per state for these beauties, but they’re so worth it.
:: Prescription Lash Enhancers:: Just when you thought you’ve seen all that the lash market can offer, it gets better. Prescription lash enhancers such as Latisse, are designed to thicken and ultimately, make your lashes longer. Latisse is the only FDA-approved prescription lash enhancer, but there are others out there that haven’t made it to the FDA. The idea is that you apply the miracle grow and in a little as a couple weeks, you’ll start to see a little magic happen. We’ve had clients come into our studio having used Latisse and the results are always the same. Long, thick, romantic-looking lashes. Now, some of them do look a little TOO long and then you have people asking you constantly if “they’re yours or not”, which can defeat the purpose. In any case, I’m interested to see how advanced these formulas can become over the next few years in the prescription lash enhancers world. For more information on prescription lash enhancers like Latisse, visit http://www.latisse.com or google it ;0P
Well, I think that just about covers the major types of lashes but there are so many that we didn’t cover or get to see. Here are a few of some lengthy, creative, and down right CRAZY lashes. XOXO
